7.9 new Internet users are added every second worldwide

Royal Pingdom, the web uptime monitoring service published some fascinating stats on the number of new web users the world sees every day. According to their numbers, there are almost eight new Internet users every second, which is 683,443 new Internet users every day with the densest population of new Internet users being in the United States. In total there were 172,227,737 new Internet users from March 2011 to December 2011.

The most influential #SOPA voices on Twitter

Klout, the website that measures online social influence released their Most Influential SOPA Voices on Twitter, for the SOPA strike earlier this week. According to Klout, there were twice as many retweets about #sopa, #pipa, #blackoutsopa, #stopsopa, #blackout, and #factswithoutwikipedia on January 18 than in the past 30 days combined. In total, the amount of SOPA-related retweets alone were 765,924. In total, there were 2.4 million SOPA-related tweets on Twitter.
