Over the weekend, the small Welsh town of Monmouth became the very first town in the world to be a “Wikipedia Town”. Visitors to “Monmouthpedia” will be presented with QR bar codes to scan, all over the town, which will take them to the town’s Wikipedia page.
Facebook’s highly talked about and now famous IPO is going to happen at any moment now. At a valuation at $100 billion and counting, it will be one of the biggest IPO’s to date, three times larger than Starbucks. Is it all that it’s cracked up to be though? Warren Buffet doesn’t think that it is. MBA Online did an infographic on the IPO numbers and included some interesting facts worth checking out.
Talk about a Cinderella story. In just under two years, the mobile photo sharing service Instagram went from nothing to a billion dollar acquisition with the social networking giant Facebook. Recently, Instagram created an Android app, which has helped fuel the explosion in growth.

Royal Pingdom, the web uptime monitoring service published some fascinating stats on the number of new web users the world sees every day. According to their numbers, there are almost eight new Internet users every second, which is 683,443 new Internet users every day with the densest population of new Internet users being in the United States. In total there were 172,227,737 new Internet users from March 2011 to December 2011.
The same generation that grew up in the 80’s and 90’s on Sesame Street and the Cookie Monster, is now the same generation that is the most digitally connected. A report from Nielsen indicates that Americans 18-34 are “redefining media consumption” with their unique embrace of everything digital.
Klout, the website that measures online social influence released their Most Influential SOPA Voices on Twitter, for the SOPA strike earlier this week. According to Klout, there were twice as many retweets about #sopa, #pipa, #blackoutsopa, #stopsopa, #blackout, and #factswithoutwikipedia on January 18 than in the past 30 days combined. In total, the amount of SOPA-related retweets alone were 765,924. In total, there were 2.4 million SOPA-related tweets on Twitter.
While on the recent subject of Batman and the Batcave, have you seen the History of the Batmobile from Car Insurance? It’s pretty neat as it covers the entire timeline of the famous bat-wheels from inception to current and all the changes and transformations it has gone through. When you think about it, it doesn’t seem like there would be a lot, but with over 70 years of the Batmobile there have been many changes to it, both small and large.
Now that Christmas has past, the rush to buy the most wanted gifts of the year are over. Facebook’s initial public offering (IPO) is currently estimated to have a value of $100 billion. Facebook may go public sometime in 2012. Since Mark Zuckerberg owns 24% of Facebook, some easy math makes him out to have an estimated worth of $24 billion! That’s a lot of money.
