Surveillance camera system can search 36 million faces per second

There is a new surveillance system that a Japanese company has developed that may change life as we know it. I am saying that because it’s that revolutionary. Facial recognition software has been in the making for years now, with many advances recently. I am sure you have seen it in movies too; I am thinking of Minority Report as one example of course. There are also examples here and here that just go to show this type of tech is coming along fast.

Lightning captured by x-ray camera

“The first x-ray images of a lightning strike have been captured by a, well, lightning-fast camera” scientists said via the National Geographic.

The lightning was captured using a 1500 pound camera.   The camera created by Dwyer’s graduate student Meagan Schaal—consists of an x-ray detector housed in a box about the size and shape of a refrigerator.  The box is lined with lead to shield the x-ray detector from stray radiation.

X-rays enter the box through a small hole that in turn focuses them, like an old-fashioned pinhole camera.   Because lightning moves blindingly fast, the camera was required to take ten million images per second.  Insanity!  This makes for some awesome photography!

Polaroid is making a comeback

Is Polaroid trying to make a come back?  Polaroid sent out a press release with a new style camera reminiscent of the classic camera [inset].

If you look at it, it looks like the old style Polaroid camera where you could snap a pic and print the image right from the camera.  Engadget took the wise approach - they lightened the image to show the bottom dark area which appears to show a slot for image printing.

Hmmm…according to the press release Polaroid plans to unvail the new camera in January at CES.
