Internet Ad revenue is already at $15 billion for 2011

In the first half of 2011, Internet Ad Revenue is at $14,941 billion and up 23% from last year. Just think about that for a second. That is a gigantic sum of money poured into online ads. Each year it keeps going up too.

The web is getting bigger (duh), so it’s natural for online ad revenue to go up as well, but at this rate is unbelievable. Now you know why websites like Facebook and Google are investing millions of dollars in ways to generate targeted online ads. There are huge returns on their investments. It also adds more logic to why Mark Zuckerberg is so interested in tracking it’s users, ethically or unethically.

Speaking of ad dollars, we will have to wait until late tonight/tomorrow to hear about the announcement on the plans for Myspace. According to Billboard, Justin Timberlake is supposed to be holding a private reception for “40 to 55 CMOs and senior marketers” along with Myspace’s new owners, Tim and Chris Vanderhook of Specific Media, to “discuss the strategy for Myspace, highlight first-100-day learning and achievements and outline advertising opportunities for brands.” It’s no wonder why a media company purchased Myspace as it is clearly their intent to extend their online ad reach and extend their pockets into this $15 billion dollar online ad industry.  Maybe they will have more luck than Rupert Murdoch by having JT on their side? I think that almost made me laugh.
