Google Plus opens up to everyone globally and adds new features

Google Plus just announced that they are opening up the Google Plus social networking service to everyone! It’s been 90 days since the beta launch. Although it felt like a long time, 90 days isn’t that bad and just long enough where Google is making the right choice to make it available to everyone now.

Especially since on Thursday the Facebook f8 Developer Conference is being held which you know Facebook is planning on releasing new features. This isn’t stopping Google from releasing their own features though. With the announcement of Google Plus going global (which is huge in itself), Google announced a whole slew of new features as well.

Google said that for the 90 days they made 91 different improvements (probably selectively counting here but that is okay). And today they announced 92, 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 99 and 100. Some of the major changes are that Google Hangouts are now available on your mobile device. So you can video group chat via your mobile. The Hangouts will have added “extras” such as Screensharing, Sketchpad (drawing, doodling), Google Docs and the ability to name Hangouts. This is probably the brunt of the major improvements besides number 100 which is the announcement of Google Plus being open to everyone. They are rolling out the site to everyone over the next few days, but there is no more need for an invite. You can just go to google.com/+ and sign up!

Another new feature which has been talked about a lot is search. Of course Google is known as the “Search Giant”, so search being an integral part of Google Plus was a given since it debuted. However search was not very well put together before today. It lacked Google’s proficiency in search with only having minimal results. This all changed today with the new search upgrade you can now search and return results right in Google Plus for related people, posts and content. I can now search and find all my old posts, other people’s posts, search by keyword and so on. Adding search is everything that everyone wanted search to be from the start.
